David Baer has been practicing corporate law since 1978. He was a partner at Ardiff & Morse P.C., a North Shore law firm where he was chair of the corporate department and served on the firm’s management committee. From 1997 to 2008, he was at the Boston firm of Ruberto, Israel & Weiner where he was also the chair of the corporate department, and served as President of the firm and its managing shareholder for five of those years.
In 2008, he joined a client company, Crystal Systems, Inc. as its Chief Financial Officer and General Counsel to help a senior management team, including the company’s founder, more fully commercialize its sapphire crystal growth technology with the goal of achieving a liquidity event for the founder and his family. As a result of these efforts CSI was sold in July, 2010 to GT Advanced Technologies, Inc. (nasdaq – GTAT) for $78 million in the form of cash, stock and an earn out. The closing was accomplished within 19 days of signing the letter of intent. At GTAT, his work was focused on negotiating, structuring and documenting supplier and customer contracts, long term supply agreements, employment matters, intellectual property issues, construction contracts, leases and export control matters including compliance.
David started and was a founder and first president of the North Shore Technology Council – www.nstc.org. David also serves on the North Shore Community College Foundation Board and the Board of Directors of North Shore InnoVentures, a non-profit technology incubator helping early-stage biotech and cleantech companies increase their probability of success – www.nsiv.org. He was chair of the North Shore United Way and has served on its Board of Directors as well as the boards of: the Entrepreneurship Institute, the North Shore Chamber of Commerce, the North Shore Workforce Investment Board and as a judge for the North Shore Business Plan Competition sponsored by the Enterprise Center at Salem State University.
